Makamo started working on monotypes with DKW printer Jillian Ross, early on in 2011. He works predominantly with portraiture. His titles allude to everyday experiences and fleeting moments. In his monotypes he makes use of “ghost” printing, which is when a second print is made from the left-over ink from the first pull. The result is much more translucent and can be worked into more. The technique lends itself to themes of memory and remembering.
Makamo states, “In my work I am a story teller, a narrator; I share. I document each day visually because for me each day is a blessing, being able to capture movements and feelings of people who live around me.”
