Gail Behrmann lives and works in Johannesburg, where her studio is located at the Bag Factory Artists’ Studios. Behrmann studied art at the Johannesburg Art Foundation. After being diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis, she slowed down on painting and concentrated on research for both documentaries and feature films and documentaries. She moves back and forth between being a painter and a film maker, thus gleefully referring to her work as film and art. In recent years she has been involved in theatre productions for the Handspring Puppet Company and William Kentridge’s video installations. Additional projects include assisting on video installations for a number of museums.
