Andrew Tshabangu was born in Soweto in 1966. Tshabangu works and lives in Johannesburg. Tshabangu has been practicing for over 25 years and his work in photography is critically acclaimed both locally and internationally. He works with social documentary form and is prompted by the ordinary subjects and the nuances they embody involving everyday movements.

In 1990 Tshabangu studied photography at the Alexandra Community Centre. Following that he pursued freelancing work and then went on to study journalism at the Institute for Advancement for Journalism. Tshabangu has taught photography both at the Children’s Photography Workshop and The Market Photo workshop respectively. He has facilitated a number photography workshops across the African Continent and also participated in residencies in New York, London, Reunion Islands and Nairobi.
