Pauline Gutter was born in 1980. She currently lives and works in the Free-state province. She is a painter and intermedia artist. Gutter obtained a BA degree in fine arts with a distinction for painting from the University of Free State. She is the winner of the prestigious 2013 ABSA L`Atelier competition. She was also awarded the Helgaard Steyn Award for painting in 2011.
In 2012 she received the Mail & Guardian 200 Young South Africans Award. Currently Gutter’s layered oil painting, drawing, video art and installation focus on identity and gender in terms of media and cultural migration.
