Wayne Berker was born in Pretoria in 1963 works and lives in Johannesburg. His artistic career spans almost two decates. Barker Earned his NDip from Pretoria Technikon and then went on to qualify with a BA(FA) at Michaelis, University of Cape Town and a Post Graduate degree at the Ecole des Beux Art, in Marseille. Barker has been involved in numerous projects, symposiums and workshops, involving academics, artists as well as children and communities. He founded the Famous International Gallery, South Africa, 1989-1995.
His work rose to prominence in the 1980’s. Major concerns informing his artworks have included the legacy of colonialism in South Africa, issues of land and contestation.
