Senzo Shabangu was born in Mpumalanga. In 2006, he studied printmaking at the Artist Proof Studio, in Johannesburg where he currently lives and works. In 2010, Shabangu was awarded the David Koloane Award and as a result he participated in a residency at the Bag Factory Artists’ Studios.
Among many other projects, he initiated the Non-Profit Organisation, Makhekhe Mshini Youth Facility Management near his home-town where Printmaking (silkscreen) workshops are held once a year.
Shabangu’s monotypes show distorted Johannesburg cityscapes, with the landscape emerging from below and suspended above its occupants, achieving a chaotic sense of being displace and moved around the city.
